Mothers Day, Wedding Day

This one goes out to all the Mama’s!!

As we celebrate Mother’s Day here at Weddings With Joy in Olympia, Washington we wanted to take this chance to give you all some ideas and ways to include mom on your Big Day! Sometimes the day gets away with everyone and you want to make sure mom knows just how much she is loved! This goes for both/all moms! Both mother of the bride and mother of the groom!!

· Write her a letter:

You and your groom can do this together or separate! She deserves this letter, the little time it will take you to sit down and prepare a heartfelt thank you, will mean more to her than you’ll probably ever know. It doesn’t need to be long, you could include a fond memory or story, a piece of advice they gave you, a thank you for their influence/lessons learned. You can also amplify this gesture by writing one for the mother of the family you’re marrying in to! Share your excitement for joining their family. Thank them for raising the person you fell madly in love with!

· Get Ready Together:

Most moms were the ones there to get you dressed and ready for the first few years of your life! Let her zip and button your dress, or put your shoes on. I’m sure she misses those days of you being her little girl, so let her reminisce on those early memories she has of the two of you! Make sure the photographer captures this moment for you both!

· Photos:

From professional photos the day of, all the way to the slideshow at your wedding…include her! A picture is worth more than a thousand words. These memories will live on forever, take the photos and share the photos!!

· Public Speaking:

Ask her to give a speech if you think she would enjoy that! Let her know it could be a short toast, or a little bit of a longer speech towards the end of the evening as a send-off and well-wishing gesture. Or if you don’t think she is comfortable doing this, maybe you and your spouse can write and give a speech to her. Make sure someone records this for you so you will have it for years to come.

· Dancing:

This one is for the mother of the groom!! First and foremost, ask mom if there is a song she WANTS to dance to. She may have one in mind!! But if not, we couldn’t pass up a chance to help find the song for their Mother/Son dance! Below is a list of great choices (or so we think) and not in any particular order!!

o “You Gotta Be” by Des’ree

o “My Mother’s Eyes” by Arthur Prysock

o “You’re Gonna Be” by Reba McEntire

o “A Song for Mama” by Boyz II Men

o “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Diana Ross

o “You’ll be in my heart” by Phil Colins

o “You are my Sunshine” by

o “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts

o “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac

o “Boy” Lee Brice

· Motherly advice:

This one can happen anytime on the wedding day. Set 10 minutes aside for you (and your fiancé) to sit down with the mom(s) alone and ask for their best piece of life advice. This doesn’t have to be relationship related, just something to help you as you move forward into this new chapter of life you’re walking into! Afterall, our mom’s have lived more life than us!

Here at Weddings With Joy we want to give a shoutout to all the moms out there, the mom’s getting married, the mom with their baby getting married and all the moms in between! Your hard work, love and dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. We love you, we appreciate you and we can’t wait to see you and celebrate with you as you go through the process of planning weddings.
